Fans of AC Milan will hope that a disappointing 1-1 draw against Udinese last time out will be just a stumble in the season long road to the Scudetto. It certainly shouldn’t be a surprise to see the title challengers bounce back here at the San Siro, as Milan have lost just twice in Serie A (SA) this season (W12, D3, L2).
There can be no guarantees though, with just one Milan win across their last five competitive games here. However, they did manage to avoid a defeat against champions and deadly rivals Inter during that run (1-1), and another tight encounter is expected here as each of the last five home H2Hs produced two or fewer goals (W1, D3, L1).
After sitting atop the tree for much of the season, a run of just one win from six league rounds for Napoli has seen the former shining star of SA tumble to fourth (W1, D2, L3). Given their questionable form of late, Napoli are priced up as outsiders for this clash – a tag they’ve not coped well with in SA games this season (L2).
Tightening up defensively will be key here, given that Napoli have scored nine times across their last four away games but won just once (D1, L2). Yet, in addition to shutting out Milan, avoiding the ire of the referee may also be difficult, as there have been four red cards shown across the last five league H2Hs alone.
Players to watch: Zlatan Ibrahimović has scored Milan’s first goal in two of their last three games, both coming either in the first or last ten minutes of play. Aiming to outshine him, Piotr Zieliński has a decent record against Milan, with four goals from 16 personal H2Hs.
Hot stat: Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti is unbeaten in ten personal H2Hs with opposite number Stefano Pioli (W7, D3).
