• With an estimated £93m worth of summer arrivals still settling at Villa Park, Aston Villa’s determination to qualify for a first European group stage since 2008/09 is self-evident. They boast strong home form of late, with no defeat in four Premier League (PL) home games at Villa Park (W2, D2), scoring a second-half penalty in both wins during that time.
• Villa do, however, lament a 50% loss-rate across their last six home H2Hs vs Everton (W2, D1, L3), which may play in the back of their minds. Even so, they have the perfect incentive to start well, as in a long run since February 1983, they’ve won all of the previous 12 H2H home league clashes led at HT.
• After a quickfire comeback last Monday (W 3-1), Everton are unbeaten across their opening four league games in successive seasons for the first time since 1986/87 and 1987/88. Everton’s Demarai Gray is a major threat too, closing the goals last Monday to make it three strikes from four PL games since signing in the summer.
• Hot stat: Nine (47.37%) of Everton’s 19 all-time PL away wins recorded after conceding first have seen them reply within 15 minutes.
