⚽ Atalanta – Olympiacos Piraeus Predictions

Atalanta – Olympiacos Piraeus Tips and Odds. February 17, 18:45 EUROPA LEAGUE.

Atalanta – Olympiacos Piraeus Preview

  • Finishing third in UEFA Champions League Group F means that Atalanta will hear the Europa League (UEL) anthem for the first time since 2017/18 as they enter the preliminary knockout round of the tournament. However confidence may be low after conceding a late equaliser to Juventus last time out (1-1), a result which stretched their winless streak to five games (D3, L2) – their longest run without victory in over two years!
  • A home match in the knockout rounds of major European competition could be just the remedy the ‘Goddess’ needs to rediscover herself, as Atalanta have lost only two of their last 13 such matches (W7, D4). Should they net the opening goal, you can almost guarantee a continuation of that positive record, as they’ve gone on to win nine of the ten Serie A matches in which they’ve led at half-time this season.
  • A first meeting with Greek opposition since 1987/88 beckons as Olympiacos come to town, a side that will be looking for an early advantage themselves after winning all 12 games in their domestic league when leading at half-time. Confidence should be on the side of the ‘Red-Whites’ too, having lost only one of their 13 matches since their last UEL group game (W9, D3), keeping a remarkable nine clean sheets in the process!
  • Whether that form can be transferred to the European stage is the question though, as Olympiacos have lost their last three trips to Italy in major European competition, and therefore will deservedly start as overwhelming underdogs. However, discount them at your peril as Olympiacos have successfully navigated the first knockout round of the UEL in three of their last four attempts.
  • Players to watch: Atalanta will be counting on Mario Pašalić to get them off to a good start, seeing as seven of his nine goals scored this term arrived before half-time, while Olympiacos’ will look to their top scorer Youssef El-Arabi for inspiration, having scored 11 of his 15 goals away from home this campaign.
  • Hot stat: Atalanta have seen nine goals scored past the 75th minute across their last nine matches.
