• A third straight blank in front of goal marked a fifth successive winless Premier League (PL) match (D4, L1) for Burnley, who now face a ‘six-pointer’ with Watford to help give themselves a platform to survive. Kick-starting their mis-firing attack will be key to finding that elusive victory, but mustering up just three shots on target in as many PL games certainly doesn’t fill the ‘Clarets’ faithful with much hope.
• It’s hard to find a silver lining for Burnley at the moment, and their task may be heightened by this clash falling on a Wednesday. With Burnley’s blunt attack, Watford know the first goal could be crucial, but they have conceded first in six of their eight PL away outings this season – only Newcastle have conceded the opener on the road more.
• Key battle: Burnley’s James Tarkowski has netted two goals in his last four PL H2H meetings with Watford and played part of a back line boasting a clean sheet in the last three H2Hs. He will be trying to keep Watford’s talisman Emmanuel Dennis quiet, who has 12 goal involvements (G7, A5) so far this season.
