• An early FA Cup exit may have been welcomed at Derby County, as all attention can now swivel back to their on-going battle to stay up. Off-pitch issues continue to swirl around the club, but on the pitch the ‘Rams’ have put together a four-game unbeaten Championship run (W3, D1), thanks in part to scoring three goals after the 80th minute. Now with far better form than their relegation rivals, they are slowly closing the gap to safety.
• They’re still 11 points off the pace though, but three wins from their previous four games at Pride Park – two vs current top-four sides – shows they’ll be anything but easy pickings for Sheffield United. Derby have also scored first in four straight home matches, something they’ve managed in their last two home H2Hs too (W1, D1).
• Visiting Sheffield United will travel here full of confidence after winning their previous four Championship games, although with the last one played back on December 20, some momentum may have been lost. They’ll surely be wary of Derby, as without the 21-point deduction the rock-bottom club have suffered this season, both sides would be sitting in mid-table with 32 points apiece!
• Another Sheffield United win could help them make a charge for the playoffs, and would give them a fifth straight Championship victory for the first time since 2008/09 – a season they reached the playoff final. Three consecutive league road wins coming into this match, and a record of scoring first in seven of their 12 Championship away games (58%), certainly indicates the ‘Blades’ will be up for the Pride Park challenge.
• Players to watch: Former Sheffield United man turned Derby hero Colin Kazim-Richards has struck in the second half in three straight Championship matches. However Billy Sharp could spoil any Derby party, as he’s scored in the last three H2Hs, including the winning goal in the previous two.
• Hot streak: All seven of Derby’s Championship victories this season saw them score first and win by a one-goal margin.
