Germany – Armenia Tips and Odds. September 5, 19:45 World Cup – Qualification.

Germany – Armenia Preview

  • A 2-0 victory for Germany against minnows Liechtenstein in Hansi Flick’s first game in charge during midweek saw them move up to second spot in World Cup Qualifying (WCQ) Group J, as the four-time WC winners look to march to Qatar 2022 without sustaining any further surprises along the way. Their 2-1 shock home loss to North Macedonia in this same qualification campaign will still be fresh in the minds of German fans who’ll be hoping another victory here can help remedy that national embarrassment.
  • Three points would take Germany back to the top of their WCQ group, and given their previous 100% overall H2H win-ratio vs visiting Armenia (W3), that outcome seems likely. The hosts also hold a fantastic record of losing just one WCQ home fixture since a 5-1 defeat to England twenty years ago this month (W15, D3).
  • Still ranked just 88th in the world, Armenia have proven to be the surprise package in Group J so far, going unbeaten after four matches (W3, D1). Playing against Germany in Stuttgart will be their biggest challenge to date however, and considering they haven’t beaten a top-20 ranked nation since 2013, the odds are stacked firmly against the visitors here.
  • At least Armenia can fall back on their recent strong competitive away form as they remain unbeaten in their last four such outings (W2, D2). Their goal scoring on the road does remain a weakness though, as Joaquín Caparrós’ side have only scored more than twice in a match on two occasions across their last 22 competitive away games (W4, D5, L13).
  • Players to watch: Midfielder İlkay Gündoğan has scored Germany’s last two WCQ home goals. In similar red-hot form, Armenia winger Tigran Barseghyan has had nine direct goal involvements across his last eight competitive international appearances (2G, 7A).
  • Hot stat: Germany have kept seven clean sheets from their last nine WCQ home matches.
