⚽ Maccabi Tel Aviv – PSV Predictions

Maccabi Tel Aviv – PSV Tips and Odds. February 24, 18:45 EUROPA CONFERENCE LEAGUE.

Maccabi Tel Aviv – PSV Preview

  • Maccabi Tel Aviv’s eight-game unbeaten run came to a crashing halt as they fell 1-0 to PSV in the first leg of this UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL) knockout clash. The Israeli cup holders put that right domestically over the weekend with a 2-0 win, a result that if replicated again here would see them reach the deepest stage of a UEFA cup competition in the club’s history.
  • However to do that Maccabi will need to repel their second all-time top-scorer Eran Zahavi (G122) as he returns to Bloomfield Stadium with an opposition side for the first time since 2010/11! While Tel Aviv have gone unbeaten at home since their final UECL group clash with LASK Linz (W6, D3 since), they’ve never won a home game against a side featuring their former talisman, Zahavi (D1, L2).
  • PSV continue to battle on multiple fronts as they maintain a title challenge for a 25th Eredivisie crown, sit in the semi-finals of the KNVB Beker, and hold the all-important advantage in this UECL knockout tie. A pile-up of fixtures has done little to dampen spirits, as PSV have won ten of their last 12 matches (L2), scoring at least twice in eight of those victories.
  • That positive run could be set to continue in this clash if history is anything to go by, as PSV are unbeaten in five prior games vs Israeli opponents (W4, D1). All four of PSV’s wins against Israeli opponents ended 1-0, including both away games, while they led at half-time in three.
  • Players to watch: Stipe Perica scored a goal in both games either side of Maccabi’s first-leg defeat, and seven of his last 12 club goals have been match openers. For PSV, Cody Gakpo’s winning goal in the reverse was his tenth in senior European competition, though his side failed to win in three of his last four continental scoring appearances (D1, L2).
  • Hot stat: Maccabi lost the first leg away from home in 13 prior European ties, but didn’t lose the home second leg in any of them (W7, D6).
