⚽ Middlesbrough – Swansea Predictions

Middlesbrough – Swansea Tips and Odds. December 4, 16:00 ENGLAND: Championship.

Middlesbrough – Swansea Preview

  • It was third time lucky for new Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder last time out as he got his first win since arriving at the club. That win ended a five-game winless run for mid-table Boro who do, nonetheless, look galvanised since Wilder’s arrival, evidenced by their return of at least three times as many shots on target as their opposition in all three games under his charge (W1, D1, L1).
  • One downside of Boro’s attack-minded focus has been the resulting defensive frailty at the other end. Both teams have scored in each of their last five matches, which is particularly irritating for Middlesbrough given that each of their last four league goals conceded came after taking the lead.
  • With the latter in mind, it is rather apt that Swansea City blew a 1-0 lead to lose 3-2 last time out. However, that’s very much against the theme of their season so far given that they’ve maintained a lead in seven of their ten league games when going ahead at any stage, therefore Russell Martin will surely be hoping for a quick start from his side here as they look to get back into the playoff picture.
  • Defeat in Swansea’s latest away H2H will be fresh in the mind, but they can take confidence from the fact that they have not recorded back-to-back defeats on Teesside since a three-game run ending in 1966! But this will undoubtedly be a tough trip north, especially considering the ‘Swans’ failed to win seven of their nine away league games as pre-match outsiders this season (D2, L5).
  • Players to watch: What more could Middlesbrough fans ask for than a first-half brace from Duncan Watmore last time out; he also scored his first two goals for the club in this fixture last season. For Swansea, their top-scorer Joël Piroe has 11 competitive goals this term, though he is yet to score more than once in a game for the club.
  • Hot stat: Middlesbrough have failed to win six of their 13 Championship games when taking a lead this season (W7, D2, L4).
