Osasuna have made a solid start to their third consecutive La Liga (LL) campaign and after finishing the last two seasons in tenth and 11th position respectively, the hosts might fancy their chances with a surprise push for European qualification this time around. With just one loss from their opening five LL matches (W2, D2), another three points here would give the home side their best start to a top-flight campaign since 2005/06.
Their success so far has emanated from a raft of defensive recruitments made over the summer that have helped Osasuna to keep three clean sheets in five LL matches, two of those on home soil. However, a lack of goal scoring remains a problem as the hosts have only scored once in three home top-flight matches (D2, L1) which may play on their minds here.
It’s been a rather drab start to the new LL campaign for Real Betis, who may have only lost once in five LL matches but have failed to secure victory more than once at the same time (D3). A lack of defensive solidity has underpinned their poor start as Betis are yet to keep a single clean sheet in LL, but that might be due in part to a new-look backline which could require time to gel.
In fact, the visitors have conceded first in five of their six competitive fixtures this term, whilst they still lack a clear goal scoring edge, drawing a staggering ten of their last 15 LL matches (W4, L1). Their recent H2H history versus Osasuna (W6, D1) should inspire confidence here though.
Players to watch: Osasuna’s Roberto Torres has proven their bright spark this campaign, scoring twice and assisting once in four LL appearances. In similar form, Betis’ Juanmi has three goals in five competitive matches this season for his side.
