Peterborough – Huddersfield Preview
- Peterborough’s spirited recovery after a poor run of results took a confidence-denting hit with a 3-0 defeat at Swansea last Saturday – their sixth loss by a 2+ goal margin this Championship season. Losses for each of the bottom three clubs in the table, however, means that they remain a relatively comfortable five points ahead of the relegation zone at the start of this midweek round.
- Weeknight football has so far been fairly kind to Darren Ferguson’s side (W1, D2, L1), with both midweek draws being secured at home, including against runaway league leaders Bournemouth. Their most recent home outing – a come-from-behind 2-1 victory vs Queens Park Rangers – also leaves them with one of the Championship’s finest unbeaten rates as a home underdog this season (W2, D2, L1; 80%).
- Huddersfield leapt out of the mid-table logjam and into the all-important top six with their 1-0 defeat of Millwall at the weekend. Having just staved off relegation last season, boss Carlos Corberán looks to be on the way to a lengthy and successful stay. Five of their seven victories this term have now been accompanied by a clean sheet, whilst all seven have seen them ‘win’ the second half, so a sound defence appears to create a platform for some strong finishes.
- However, their last three victories have all been at home, with their away record (W2, D2, L3) holding them back in what nevertheless remains their second-best start to a Championship campaign in several years. A true test of their progress will be whether they can secure their first win as a travelling favourite (W0, D3, L0) since dropping back to the second tier after 2018/19.
- Players to watch: Peterborough’s Harrison Burrows has recorded their first goal after half-time in three Championship home games (W2, D1) this season, whilst Huddersfield have won both games in which Johnathan Hogg has found the back of the net in the second half.
- Hot stat: Just four of the last 16 Championship games involving either club have seen both teams score.
