A late goal propelled Queens Park Rangers to a huge 2-1 win over Coventry last time out making it four consecutive Championship wins to keep the Londoners in a top-four spot. The ‘Hoops’ have left it late with three of those game deciding goals coming beyond the 80th minute, but wouldn’t mind a further repeat here as they chase Premier League promotion for the first time since the 2013/14 season.
Another three-point haul in this clash would not only make it their longest Championship winning sequence since October 2004, but would also see QPR secure consecutive league H2H wins for the first time since 1980 after winning 1-0 in April 2021! Goals may be at a premium again though, as QPR’s last seven Championship home matches (W4, D1, L2) have all produced under 2.5 strikes, whilst all six win/loss results in that period came ‘to nil’.
Playing just their second league game in six weeks due to Covid-19 related postponements, Swansea City beat Preston 1-0 last time out as the visitors eye up a long-shot at the Championship playoffs given their games in hand. The ‘Swans’ have won consecutive league games only twice before this season which may cause some concern, though they’ve won their last two away league H2Hs.
Only two clubs have secured fewer Championship away points than Swansea (12) this season so the visitors will have to be at their best to grab another victory here. There’s reason for some cheer at least as Russell Martin’s side have picked up four points from their last three away league matches (W1, D1, L1), aided by three goals all scored beyond the 70th minute.
Players to watch: QPR’s Andre Gray has four goals in his last five league H2Hs, opening the scoring for his team on three occasions. Looking for the last laugh though will be Joël Piroe as his previous four away Championship goals have been Swansea’s last.
Hot stat: Seventeen of QPR’s last 19 Championship first halves have produced under 1.5 goals.
