Despite taking just one victory in their last five Ligue 1 outings, Rennes are still within touching distance of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) spots. Opponents Brest halted a four-match winless league run (D1, L3) with a victory against champions Lille in their last Ligue 1 outing, and sit just six points adrift of the European positions ahead of the round. Additionally, they’ve lost just one of their last six away league matches, giving them a sporting chance of upsetting the odds.
Brest have had no problems scoring on the road this season, with only PSG blunting them, but defence is a different matter. That result aside, Brest’s Ligue 1 away games this season have consistently seen both teams score, but reassuringly for them, only three Ligue 1 one sides have a better points average away from home than Brest in games where they have conceded first.
Players to watch: Rennes’ Baptiste Santamaria scored his customary one goal of the season in their least league outing, failing to score multiple goals in a campaign since 2015/16. Also hoping to boost his stats, Brest’s Franck Honorat is the team’s only scorer across their last four away games.
