⚽ Southampton – Wolves Predictions

Southampton – Wolves Tips and Odds. September 26, 14:00 ENGLAND: Premier League – Round 6.

Southampton – Wolves Preview

  • Southampton’s unremarkable start to the season sees them heading into this gameweek in the exact same position in which they finished last campaign (15th). Ralph Hasenhüttl set out a top-ten finish as the goal pre-season, therefore improvement is clearly needed. His side come into this clash on the back of four consecutive Premier League (PL) draws, a dull sequence of results not seen from the ‘Saints’ since a run of four in March 2002.
  • They’d probably have preferred to pick another opponent in their pursuit of their first league win given that Wolves have had their number of late. The Southcoast side have won just one of the last ten H2H clashes in the league (D4, L5), a particularly poor record considering that they scored first in each of the last five games in that sequence.
  • The visitors could do with some of that comeback capacity at the moment given they’ve conceded first in four of their five PL matches this season, and went on to suffer defeat in each. Whilst creating chances has rarely been an issue – they’d attempted the third-most shots in the league heading into this gameweek (82) – converting them has.
  • The consequence of that is they’ve failed to score in four of their five PL matches, and no side has failed to score in the division more across this calendar year than Wolves (12). Yet despite their underwhelming form, a victory would hand them back-to-back away league wins for the first time since June 2020.
  • Players to watch: Southampton’s new signing Adam Armstrong scored with just his second shot of the season, but has failed to find the net with any of his 14 since. On the subject of shots, unlucky Wolves duo Adama Traoré and Raúl Jiménez rank joint-top for most shots without a goal this term (14).
  • Hot stat: Southampton have picked up the fewest PL wins in 2021 (five), of teams that have featured in both campaigns.
