• Southampton’s unremarkable start to the season sees them heading into this gameweek in the exact same position in which they finished last campaign (15th). Ralph Hasenhüttl set out a top-ten finish as the goal pre-season, therefore improvement is clearly needed. His side come into this clash on the back of four consecutive Premier League (PL) draws, a dull sequence of results not seen from the ‘Saints’ since a run of four in March 2002.
• They’d probably have preferred to pick another opponent in their pursuit of their first league win given that Wolves have had their number of late. • Players to watch: Southampton’s new signing Adam Armstrong scored with just his second shot of the season, but has failed to find the net with any of his 14 since. On the subject of shots, unlucky Wolves duo Adama Traoré and Raúl Jiménez rank joint-top for most shots without a goal this term (14).
• Hot stat: Southampton have picked up the fewest PL wins in 2021 (five), of teams that have featured in both campaigns.
