• West Bromwich Albion’s quest for an immediate return to the Premier League has hit a couple of bumps, with their 2-1 midweek loss to Swansea – despite scoring after just 52 seconds – making it two defeats from three games. That’s seen the ‘Baggies’ drop out of the automatic promotion places, and while the season remains young, boss Valérien Ismaël has urged his squad to show the ‘right reaction’ as Bristol City come knocking.
• That shouldn’t be hard at The Hawthorns, where West Brom remain unbeaten this Championship season (W4, D2) after grinding out a 1-0 win in a West Midlands derby clash in their last home outing. A 75th minute strike won that game, and means West Brom’s last five matches have now seen at least one goal scored in or after the 75th minute.
• After finishing in 19th last season, Bristol will be hoping for better this time around, but four wins from 13 rounds (D4, L5) is the same sort of form that saw them keep one eye on the relegation zone throughout 2020/21. While an away game vs West Brom looks tough, boss Nigel Pearson may be secretly pleased, as after spectacularly conceding twice within a minute in second-half injury time at Ashton Gate during midweek (L 2-1), Bristol remain winless at home but have picked up 75% of their points on the road.

• Players to watch: In-form Karlan Grant (WBA) has now scored the opener in three of his last four games, but is up against Bristol’s Chris Martin who’s scored three of his four strikes before half-time.
