Young Boys – Ferencvaros Tips and Odds. August 18, 20:00 Champions League – Qualification.
Young Boys – Ferencvaros Preview
- Heavily favoured to progress from the UEFA Champions League (UCL) playoffs, Young Boys head into this first-leg full of confidence. Still unbeaten in Europe this season (W2, D2), the hosts have recaptured their goalscoring form of late with seven strikes in their last two competitive fixtures but there’s still potential cause for concern ahead of this clash, as a lack of summer signings coupled with an ever-growing injury list leaves the reigning Swiss champions scrambling for options.
- Young Boys’ previous record of losing three times in the UCL playoffs between 2016 and 2020 will also leave their fans on edge as David Wagner’s men go in search of consecutive UCL wins for the first time since August 2010. More positively though, the Swiss side’s historical record against Hungarian clubs (W5, D2, L1) could be the perfect antidote to all of those worries.
- Ferencváros were the first-ever Hungarian club to make the UCL group stage back in 1995/96, and they’ll be looking to replicate that success with victory in this two-legged affair. Although a 1-0 loss to Slavia Prague in their last qualifying match halted a five-game UCL winning streak, the Hungarian champions will take heart from that performance, having held on to seal a slender 2-1 aggregate win with ten men.
- The ‘Green Eagles’ remain dogged travellers when starting a European two-legged qualifier on the road, having drawn their last six such matches, although extending that run here could prove difficult due to several first team injuries. As a result, the visitors will again be reliant on their potent strikeforce who currently top the UCL scoring charts with 13 goals.
- Players to watch: Jordan Siebatcheu has scored his three UCL goals this campaign across two home matches. Both games saw him score Young Boys’ first goal within 30 minutes. Meanwhile, Myrto Uzuni has already netted a UCL away hat-trick for Ferencváros this term!
- Hot stat: Young Boys’ last six UCL home games have averaged 3.67 total goals per fixture.
